  • Is Brainwashing Making You Sick and Fat?

Have you been trying to eat healthy, but still feel like crap?
Or have you been trying to lose weight forever and just can’t seem to get it off?

Chances are the multi-billion dollar dieting and food industries have gotten ahold of your brain and warped it into making you believe what they want you to. With two-thirds of our adults being overweight, Diabetes numbers on the rise and obesity being more dangerous than ALL cancers combined, it’s important we work together to reprogram our thoughts and beliefs when it comes to living healthy.
Let me give you a few examples of how these industries are robbing you blind and stealing your health.

Brainwashing #1- Lets think about HIGH FIBER FOODS and SUGAR

Current marketing would make you believe it is much smarter to eat a high fiber bagel, cereal or pasta, than a banana, baked potato or an apple. We couldn’t possibly eat a piece of fruit or a potato. THOSE ARE CARBS and SUGAR!

                                                  Potato Ingredients: Just Potato :>)

Sandwich Thins Ingredients:WHOLE WHEAT FLOUR, UNBLEACHED ENRICHED WHEAT FLOUR [FLOUR, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, REDUCED IRON, NIACIN, THIAMIN MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1), RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), FOLIC ACID], WATER, CELLULOSE FIBER, WHEAT GLUTEN, YEAST, SUGAR, CRACKED WHEAT, RYE, POLYDEXTROSE, SALT, GROUND CORN, CANOLA AND/OR SOYBEAN OIL, PRESERVATIVES (CALCIUMPROPIONATE, SORBIC ACID), GRAIN VINEGAR, GUAR GUM, CULTURED WHEAT FLOUR, BROWN RICE, OATS, MONOGLYCERIDES, SOYBEANS, TRITICALE, BARLEY, FLAXSEED, MILLET, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, SUCRALOSE, SOY LECITHIN.  YUCK!  HMMM? Do I see sugar and sucralose in these thins? What about genetically modified Soy?

Please do not fall for this tactic anymore. If you will eat a bagel, sandwich thins or cereal (which are ALL processed CARBS), I am here to let you know, it is definitely OK to eat natural, whole carbs from the Earth. Natural carbs from the Earth do not contain high amounts of sodium, synthetic vitamins or food additives. Go Organic and/or to your local farm for the best!
Brainwashing #2 Food is YOUR LIFE, YOUR COMFORT, YOUR HAPPINESS.
Modern day commercials would lead your kids to believe they will be a super hero if they eat a certain candy bar or have a party in their room with each bite of cereal. Fast food commercials and common restaurants want us to believe our happiness can only be achieved through eating our hearts out at their establishment.
FOOD is good, but it can never replace how good it feels to put on your pants or your dress and actually have them fit. It can not replace how you feel when your pictures are taken and show your healthy body.  Will it make you happier to eat whatever you want, even though it will cause you to die 5 years earlier and miss out on your children or spouses milestones in life?
FOOD is GOOD, but it does not bring LONG TERM HAPPINESS and you do not have to feel deprived because you set a few boundaries on what you will put in your mouth. You can know that you will be happier living a healthier life and having your favorites in moderation.
Brainwashing #3- YOU MUST LOSE WEIGHT FAST OR YOU ARE A FAILURE
Learning how to eat healthy, is just like any new habit, job or task we take on. When learning how to play a new sport, you stumble, make mistakes and it takes time to excel. You practice, keep trying and you may even hire a coach. When you get married, it’s tough learning how to communicate and overcome obstacles. A new business is a HUGE learning process. You make lots of mistakes, you put your life into it and you work hard to get through the early stages so you can hopefully reap the benefits later.
Since when do we think we can learn how to change every unhealthy habit we have in two weeks? How can we just start losing weight and know how to keep it off if we are not experts in this field and we have been practicing poor habits for years? Losing weight and improving your health is just like the new job, the sport and the new marriage. YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE MISTAKES! YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE SETBACKS! The key is to know this and accept it. Look at ways to overcome your obstacles, hire a coach, put in some extra studying time- DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO TAKE CARE OF YOU! If you stay consistent and keep your eye on the prize of what you want to look and feel like 3 months, 6 months, 6 years from now, YOU WILL ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS!
It’s time we get off the hamster wheel and GET REAL about taking care of our health!
If you want to continue to be lied to by weight loss doctors, pill mills and gimmicks, stay on the wheel.

  • Moving Forward

I am so excited to start blogging again. I have never been much of a blogger, but I definitely have a lot to share and I guess this is a better format than Facebook. With so much negative news in the media and self doubt we have as people, it’s hard to maintain focus at times. As I continue to grow as an individual, a mentor and a business owner, I’d love to share my strengths, weaknesses and tips of success with each of you. My main goal is to Value Self and to help others do the same.

In the past two years, our team has launched and been part of several initiatives to help improve the self esteem and health of every individual. Many people tell us we are taking on too much or focused in too many directions and yes, in some aspects I agree with them, but in other aspects, this is what I feel I have been called to do. Everything we launch ties into our main goal- motivating people to Value Self.

Mass media has taught us to doubt ourselves, abuse ourselves and to feel lesser than the next. But what is true, is each of us was perfectly and uniquely made. How can we compare ourselves to someone else or feel less than the next person if we are each uniquely made not one person being exactly alike? We can’t compare ourselves and should NOT. We have to live our own personal journey and know that it is ok for us to have different beliefs, different levels of education and a different economic status.

Although we have each been perfectly made, we as a people are destroying the beauty of our species through habits such as crappy thoughts, crappy food and high stress. Our lack of Value for our own bodies, holds us back from achieving our personal, professional and spiritual goals. As many of you know, GIME Fitness helps lots of people with weight loss, pain relief and athletic performance. We know a lot of technical data and a lot of numbers to help people achieve efficient results, but what I have learned over the last 18 years of motivating myself and others, NONE of the science matters if you do not Value Self. If you have no confidence or trust in yourself, you will never become what you were truly created to be.

I, like many of you, have been abused mentally, emotionally, physically and sexually. I could look back on life and dwell on every mishap, mistake and mean thing people have done to me and I could use this as an excuse to give up or feel defeated. Nothing in my life has happened through pure luck. What has happened, is I was born to a mother who no matter how poorly she was treated or how unappreciated she was, she never grew weary. She always worked hard to do nice things for others and for me. Even when she did not have much to give, she still gave love. She has taught me to not grow weary. So even though I have a tough job of keeping myself, my staff, my family and my clients motivated to Value Self, I will not grow weary.

I work hard everyday to make my mother proud and to take care of others the way she takes care of me.

I hope that each of you will not grow weary. Do not grow weary in taking care of yourself. Do not grow weary in showing others they matter to you. Do not grow weary in showing complete strangers love and compassion. If we keep moving forward and we always look for ways to value ourselves, the world around us will continue to bring us good things. It won’t always be easy. There will be some obstacles, set backs and a little self doubt, but if we trust that each bump is a part of our journey, we will persevere and leave a valuable legacy to those around us.

GIME KIMMIE, is here to help you bounce back from those setbacks and to share incredible insight to help you Value Self! I hope you will follow my blog in future weeks, support our outreach efforts and be part of helping make each person the best they can be.

I would love to hear from you. Please share your comments below as to how you are working to Value Self or who inspires you to keep pushing forward.

  • Oh Scale, How Beautiful Art Thou?

Do you remember the fairy tales when they used to look in the mirror and say, “Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” This common question was popular in the Disney movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Now in recent movies children and adults step on the scale to determine their beauty. It’s funny, they do not even pay attention to how their clothes fit or what the mirror looks like, as soon as they step on the scale they feel beautiful or not.

It starts when we’re a child and we’re told whether we are healthy or not by our weight on the scale.  Then we start to see media ads showing hot bodies, rapid weight loss and plastic surgery. All leading us to believe if the scale goes down, we will be beautiful and accepted. We then fight to burn off stubborn fat. We fight in many ways. Some buy weight loss pills, others practice moderate to severe starvation, while some try surgery. All to get the number on the scale to go down. But what does that number mean? If you lose weight through crash dieting, will you look good after you lose 50lbs? Will you feel good? Will you maintain it?

It amazes me how we have been controlled by this digital piece of equipment that lays on the floor all day. How do we rely on an inanimate object to tell us whether we are beautiful or not? A human could tell us we look amazing, our clothes could fit better, but if the scale says we are up two pounds, we immediately feel like a FAT failure. Trust me, I used to have this mind set. If I was down two, I was happy, up two and I was rude to everyone around. The sad part is, no one else could see any changes, just me and my bathroom scale (my depressed attitude made me uglier than the two pound weight gain did anyway).

We have to change this mind set. Weight loss does not mean pretty or handsome. If you lose 50lbs rapidly, trust me, you will not look attractive to most people. Many times, your skin hangs off of you, you feel like crap from nutritional deficiencies and you’re wondering how you are going to tone up the hanging skin. I have seen people be happy that they lost 100lbs in 4 months, but they look and feel ten times worse than they did when they we’re 100lbs heavier.  Some are elated because the scale says 100lbs less, but when they really sit down and look at how they feel from starving and how they look from losing 50% of their muscle, it still does not equate to happiness or beauty.

To the flip side, I may meet someone who has lost pant sizes, gained strength and energy, but they are depressed because the scale says their up 5lbs. Many times when someone starts losing weight slowly through strength training and a good diet, they may actually gain weight or maintain on the scale due to muscle gain and other factors. Their body is working to get healthy, but many times they are dropping body fat and changing shape, tone and sizes. Their body is internally getting healthy and working to increase their metabolism. But sure enough, because the scale says their up 5lbs, they freak out and beat themselves up. Either they start to starve themselves, give up or go on a binge. They forgot that their friend mentioned how good they looked, that their rings were getting looser or they felt ten times better. The stupid, inanimate scale told them they were up 5lbs so this healthy crap must not be working.

We need to realize that the scale only gives us a number. It doesn’t tell us whether we are a ball of flab or a ball of fit! It does not tell us whether we are preventing disease or creating cancer and bone loss. If you are starving yourself, taking weight loss pills or going to most doctors to reduce your stomach size, please do not jump up and down for your weight loss. It’s not getting you to where you really want to be. At least I wouldn’t think so. Not from the after effects we have all seen and experienced.

It’s time we do what they did before scales existed. We focused on how we felt and how our clothes fit. If things were getting a little tight, we moved a little more or laid off the extra helping. If we were feeling run down, we used to eat specific foods to help get us going. Our goal was never to starve ourselves or drink protein shakes to feel good. Our goal was always to eat good food and work hard. Your body will look like what you do to it.

Think about how you take care of everything else in your life? Think of how you judge whether something is beautiful or not? Do you judge the beauty of a flower by it’s weight? Do you judge the condition of your car by how much it weighs? Do you think your dog is cute because it is at an ideal weight? No! You do not determine beauty by how much any of these things weigh and you do not keep them beautiful by weighing them on a scale everyday. What do you do? YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM. We take care of the flowers we want to look beautiful. We take care of the car we do not want to break down. And we love the puppy we want to live long. Guess what? That is the secret to your beauty!

Take care of your body. Give it the water you give to your garden. Put your body on a regular maintenance plan as you do your favorite car and give it the quality fuel it was designed to run on. Don’t throw your body on a scale everyday and expect it to look like what you want it to. It will not get you where you want to be. It will just spit out a number that gives you a false sense of health and gets you hung up on all the wrong behaviors. All the ones which lead to you not doing what you truly need to do in order to achieve a healthy, tone body!

Try this today. Whether you are thin, heavy, fit or flabby, get off the scale. Weigh yourself one more time tomorrow, write it down and then do a 180! Throw it out for 180 days and just focus solely on what you need to do to feel good and look good. Focus on the behaviors it takes to have a healthy body. Go walking, drink water, reduce alcohol, reduce fried foods, have fun with your friends. These steps lead to better health, peace of mind and a better relationship with you. Check it 180 days from now and see what happens. This does not mean free reign to eat and do what you want. This means free brain space to focus on what you can do to cherish your body without wasting your thoughts on what the scale says.

Don’t feel guilty or judged if you have tried the crash diets, the medical weight loss etc. We all have. We have all been tricked into thinking this is a faster, easier route, when really it’s a slow death and a miserable mental journey. Take care of you like you would anything else you value and never stop. Even if you have a setback, no biggie, just don’t give up. It’s never too late to feel better than you do right now, mentally, physically and/or emotionally. You were made uniquely beautiful and there is no one just like you. Start treating yourself that way, because you truly are the fairest of them all!
